08:24 am - Ice, help me! XD
When would be a good time for me to call your dad? I left my computer on during a thunderstorm and the pwer went out. Now I can't start it and I'm worried that my pathetic attempts to fix the problem instead just made it worse.

05:35 pm - Good thing it's fast. I cannot fully express how much fun it is to ride 5 km almost entirely uphill against 30 km/h winds. No, really.
And I get to do it all again tomorrow. .....

01:35 pm - And it begins again The Canadian Annual Seal Hunt. The one thing I've discovered that can throw me into a frothing rant without fail.
Dear animal rights zeolots:
There is NO market for whitecoat baby seals. None. Zilch. Nada. It's been outlawed internationally for the last TEN YEARS. Stop using images of whitecoats to promote your cause; it just makes you look like a retard.
The hakapik is NOT an inhumane way to kill an animal. Personally, I'd prefer to get clubbed to death than being eaten alive by an orca whale. But maybe that's just me.
And your argument that the seals are only being killed by their fur? Well, there's around 200 000 - 300 000 seals killed in the 4 month hunt. If you can show us pictures of 300 000 skinned seal carcasses, then yeah, you're right. But seeing as the meat, blubber (and most likely the innards) are also used both by local communities and the international market, you might have some problems with that.
One last thing: Should the impossible happen and you actually succeed in getting the annual hunt shut down, I hope you're able to sustain the entire Inuit population, because it's kinda hard to raise cows up there, what with it all being permafrost and all.
Animal rights groups are a lot like unions. It's great that we have them, but they seriously go overboard with their crap sometimes. Current Mood: aggravated

07:55 pm - I'm in this guild...why? I just find it cruelly ironic that we have 10 paladins in my guild but everyone's complaining that we don't have a decent tank for Kara.
Why? Because two of those said pallys are too low to spec, one is holy and rest are ret.

05:45 am - okay. This is not how my day should go. So yeah, I got into a car accident on my way to work today.
I'm not hurt. Let's get that out of the way first. Though Krystal has repeatedly stated that whiplash sometimes takes a couple of days to kick in. Nothing so far.
What happened: I have two options when I go to work. I can go straight through the three-way stop to the lights at the main road, or I can turn left at the three-way and go through residental to another main road. I sometimes prefer this route as there's less traffic and no traffic lights.
Today, I decided to go the residental route. Not a problem. Admittedly, I do tend to speed a little bit through here, again because there's little to no traffic. I make a point to look as far down the street as possible to make sure there's nothing moving that could possibly jump out at me. Hey, if you're going to drive recklessly, at least do it safely. lol
I need to remember that I have tunnel vision. :/ Or so I'm told.
One block from the main road. Got my eyes focused on that stop sign just ahead of me.
Next thing I know, I'm registering white minivan bumper hurtling towards me from my left from an ajoining street. I don't even have time to think "Oh shit" before I'm hit.
Next five seconds are spent reassuring myself that yes, I am actually still alive, and no, no pain to be felt anywhere, although I am feeling a funny feeling in my chest that I'm presently attributing to major adrenaline rush.
Getting out to assess the damage, I discover that Mr. Minivan blew through a yield sign and hit me hard enough to 1)cause me to spin 90 degrees, and 2)make a 6" deep dent in the side of my truck. Hit my rear tire, so it split and came almost completely off the rim.
Through a fortuitous stroke of luck, I got hit just behind the door. Had I been driving any slower....yeah. So not sitting here typing out this post.
Make sure the other driver and his passenger are okay. I don't recall if he asked me how I was doing, but I do remember thinking that he was paying a lot more attention to the slightly less damaged front of his van.
There actually were witnesses. One woman came up to me and she saw the whole thing, and yeah, the other guy was in the wrong. She didn't think he'd contest what happened, but offered me her contact info just in case.
I accepted. It's funny, because I had Calista's accident running through my head at this point. I truly believe that I would have refused otherwise.
The other driver was rather hilarious in a rather 'Wow, you're kinda of a jerk' type of way. He's the one with the cellphone, but instead of calling the police, he instead calls his wife. I end up going to the mall (thankfully right across the street) to call work, police and AMA to find out if I should call a tow truck right away or not.
So, then I headed back to the accident scene, waited for an officer to show up. He does, we fill out our statements. As I'm starting mine, I can overhear him telling the officer that I was driving too fast. Eh, if I was the cause of an accident, I'd be trying to place some of the blame on the other guy too. At the same time though, my god man, grab a spine and admit you screwed up.
The officer gave him a ticket for failing to yield, which will help me prove it was his fault. HaHA, take that, buddy.
Of course, fate being the ironic bitch it is, he can actually drive away. I'm stuck for another half an hour waiting for a tow truck that the officer was kind enough to call for me.
When he does show up, and starts pulling my truck onto the flatbed, we start realizing the full extent of the damage. I had noticed from the beginning that something had fallen down from the undercarriage. Not being carpart-savvy enough, I thought it looked like the axle, but that axles run horizontally, not vertically under the vehicle.
Turned out the be the drive train. When the rear tire got hit, it moved the whole axle over enough that the train 'popped' right out.
Further examination revealed that the rear shock was busted, as well the leafspring. The one I had replaced earlier this year. Dammit.
So in essence, the entire back end of my truck is pretty much totalled. I fully expect it be a write-off. Which, considering it's a 1989 model, would have happened regardless of the damage.
Currently, my poor little truck is now sitting in its parking spot. I have to go to my insurance company tomorrow. I'm hoping that I can salvage the engine, as it hasn't even hit 200 000K yet. (Vehicles that old you would expect to have over 3-400 000K.) That would be a lot cheaper than buying another car outright. But I have to find another truck to do it with, and someone to do it. And of course, the money to do it.
Still went to work. Four hours late. Because I'm a workaholic, the guys at work needed to see I was okay, and I really need the money now.
*sigh* Did I mention that my rent goes up nearly $100 in three months? Yeah. This is starting to get a little stressful.
At least no one was hurt. ^_^ Current Mood: irritated

04:34 am - For those few who have notice my extreme non-chattiness of late. Mostly icelightning, possibly senotay....
Milk became deathy ill last weekend. Yesterday I was told he had what possibly could be a tumor on his pancreas. Today he lies in the emergency vet clinic waiting to go into a surgery I have very little hope of him coming out of.

04:42 am - This is not how a week should start. Donny Boviak(sp?) retired from my workplace around two months ago, after working there for nearly thirty years. He was a short little Ukrainian, five feet high. We liked to call him Leprechan. Donny was really loud and obnoxious though, and made a point to always annoy me as soon as I came to work.
Today, when I came to work, I was met outside by Rob, who works in the office. Over the weekend, while driving home with his wife after visting their daughter, Donny suffered and died from a massive heart attack. His wife apparently had to grab the steering wheel. She's fine physically, but....yeah.
Twenty minutes later, I'm told by my supervisor Mike, that one of my lead hands, a seventeen year old kid named Colby, was in a serious car accident and now lies in hospital with two broken vertebrae.
....Needless to say, nobody at work had a very good day yesterday. Current Mood: crushed

04:42 am - Ever wonder how your mouse arrow icon works? My dad sent me this.
The mystery is finally solved. How does the small arrow on your computer monitor work when we move the mouse? Haven't you ever wondered how it works? Now, through the miracle of high technology, we can see how it is done. With the aid of a screen magnifying lens, the mechanism becomes apparent. Click on the link below and you will find out. The image may take a minute or two to download and when it appears, slowly move your mouse over the light gray circle and you will see how the magic works. Follow this link and find out!

03:50 pm - Update! Finally finished moving, but not finished unpacking. The kitchen is 95% done; just need to finish washing the baking pans and get the curtain rod. Oh yeah, and get fuzzy sticky things for the bottom of my kitchen chairs. I never used my table and chair set at the old place (considering I hated that kitchen as it was completely walled off from the rest of the apartment), so I never realized how irritating it is to have the chairs do that vibrating sound when you pull them across the floor.
....And that's pretty much the only room that's unpacked to my liking. :/
The bathroom is smaller than the old one, has no window and no closet. Actually, it has almost NO storage space in it whatsoever. The little cabinet under the sink is about 12" deep. I've been looking for a cabinet to hang about the toilet, but apparently it's too much to ask to find one that's more than 6 1/2' deep. Guess I'll just have to work with what I've got. ^^
Although why I'm complaining about storage is beyond me. This place is HUGE. Well, not *that* huge, but a lot bigger than the old place, and that's even taking into account the second bedroom. There's two linen closets by the bathroom (one I assume is for cleaning supplies), and the storage room that's right next to it is double the size of the old one. In the kitchen, it's the same story. In the old place, I had four drawers and seven cupboards. Here, I have seven drawers and eleven cupboards. Yeah. It's amazing. I actually have a cupboard and a drawer that are still pretty much empty. It's unofficially space for cat supplies. lol
The living room is bigger as well, and better designed in terms of where the balcony door is. But I've hit the same problem I had in the other place -- where to put things. Currently I have everything more to one side of the room and the the north wall has just the desk and the china cabinet. When Krystal and her mom came over, they pretty much said I set up everything wrong and then told me how I should have things set up. LOL So I'll be moving furniture again at some point. Which is kinda annoying, seeing as I just finished setting up the computer.
Speaking of which, I discovered that Rob at work bought himself a 32" multi-function LCD monitor. I know I'm going to be getting a bigger monitor at some point, seeing as I've made the computer the main entertainment center, but I haven't decided whether I want a multi-function (which has speakers built into the monitor) or just a plain monitor and a seperate set of speakers. I'll probably lean towards the latter, if it's possible to get a surround sound system of a computer. XD
The bedroom is smaller than the old one, but seeing as the computer desk is now in the living room and most of the stuff I had in the closet is now sitting in the spare bedroom/den, it's not that big a deal. The main concern with that room is finding a set of blinds to go onto the window. Ideally, I want faux wood blinds with 2 1/2" slats and no router holes that are custom cut to cover the entire window. Seeing as I work nights, I want as little light as possible coming through. Unfortunately, getting blinds like that will put me back around $500. I think it'd be a good investment, but Krystal told me point blank to keep looking. lol
All in all, I really like my new place. And like I told Krys, if this place actually decided to convert to condos, I'd buy. It's that nice. ^^ Current Mood: content

09:59 am - What the #)*%? Way back when the the apartment complex I live in changed hands, and the new owners decided to switch the suites to condos, they told everyone via letter that they were going to put money in updating the exterior of all the buildings. Apparently this meant changing the balconies from the original wrought iron fence to some sort of plastic barrier.
The company they hired to do it has been working hard all this week. Today they decided to do mine.
By taking everything off my balcony without asking my permission first or even letting me know beforehand so I could have taken all my stuff off myself. And then cutting into the old iron fence and wrenching it off, making all sorts of really loud, extremely obnoxious noises, all at nine-thirty in the morning, when I'm TRYING TO SLEEP. Needless to say, I've only had three hours of sleep (I work nights, remember?) and I'm feeling rather grumpy to say the least.
Complaint? Oh hell yeah. Which garnered a response of, "Oh, we can't really do anything about it -- the company who's doing it hasn't been communicating with us very well. Hopefully they'll be gone today. You have our sincere apologies and might we recommend a set of earplugs in the meantime?"
Oh, I'm going to be so glad when I'm shot of this place in two weeks. And buddy on my balcony? You better be glad I'm not a wrathful person or holy cow, I would have punted you off ala Garfield and Odie. >:/ Current Mood: angry

01:44 pm - Recent events 1. I've just been made supervisor at work. Have held that title for over two weeks now. Reason: the head loading guy on day shift is retiring (supposedly lol) and the original night shift supervisor (Guy) was given the job to replace him. His words? "I'm going to be in the yard, and I won't have to deal with you people anymore! It's going to be great!" Thanks Guy. So now I no longer build, but now pass on my immense truss building knowledge to everyone else while making sure they fix all their mistakes. lol
2. I just got a new apartment. I move on the fifteenth. Two bedrooms, forty dollars *less* than my current one bedroom, with NO BUGS and VENTILATION!!! I was almost crying with joy. This thing was literally *handed* to me. My across the hall neighbor came up to me while I was taking out the recycling and told me that she and her husband had gotten the suite, but then turned around and bought a house. So they told the landlady that I wanted it, I applied and wham! I got me a new apartment. ^^
Thos are the big things. Little things include my truck leaks oil really badly and needs to be fixed, my cat is still fine, but still a bit underweight. I'm working on that. And I've gained weight and am really out of shape. I blame WoW. lol
